Zenith Z5RS - SBR/922r SUPPRESSED - accuracy and a question
Had the Z5 out the other day and ran about 300 rounds through it (Suppressed) after about 250rds started to notice it was getting dirty to the point the bolt wouldn't close completely without a little tap. Also noticed the mags were FUGLY dirty too.
QUESTION: Anybody else have a dirty gun issue like this?
Accuracy was still top notch though. Here's a pic of 20 rounds in a 4 inch target at 10 yards. Me likey.

Current value of HK 93 with 178 barrel and removable flash hider?
I'm considering one of these for a 5.56 rifle. How many 93s are around with the 1:7 barrel without the flash hider welded on?

SBR'd Gray USC
Just finished re-installing the original barrel that was cut down and threaded to ISO specifications by member
@NoScoE30
He also had H&M Metal Processing Black Nitride the barrel which now is a deep lush dark black color. Also added an XS Trijicon Big Dot front sight. I like this site because it's easier to sign in quickly on the white dot plus the hood is metal not plastic. I had the SBR engraving put on the gun's spine where the optic rail normally goes.
This SBR/carbine handles really well (haven't fired it just yet) even with the silly thumbhole stock. Only downside remaining now is the USCs massively over-sized hand-grip circumference. My plan is to leave this as an unconverted USC. I have a Hera 20 round mag but was too lazy to dig it up for the pics.

XG3S and Bufer Tech Recoil Buffer
Had a quick range day today (108° heat index kept it short), and brought along a couple of clones. Was trying to dial the scope in with my XG3S, but it kept stove piping, and I figured the port buffer was hanging things up. Removed it, and same results with the first shot. Different mags, different ammo, same story; two or three bangs, and then a train wreck. Also brought a NIB SAR-8 overstamp, loaded it with the same mags and same ammo, and not one malfunction. Previous owner replaced the factory buffer in the stock of the Portuguese rifle with one of the Buffer Technologies units - could that possibly be causing the bolt to not cycle completely and gum up the works? Checked google, but didn't see much on them hanging guns up, just causing other problems. I have the original somewhere that came with the rifle, but it's buried in my mountains of crap somewhere. For the record, the recoil was much less with the factory buffer in the SAI rifle than with the Buffer Tech abortion in the XG3S. Going to try and hunt down the correct buffer and see if that fixes the problem, but not sure when I'll make it back out.

The Tightest Box (Picture Heavy; NSFW maybe)
What?! This is a thread about which of four different ammunition brands shot the smallest group out of my PTR 91, GI model, regardless of its placement on the target.
I bought all of the ammunition from SGAmmo.com (per round price does not include shipping).
Malaysian surplus at $0.37 per round:

German surplus at $0.45 per round:
![]()
Federal Premium Gold Medal Match at $1.05 per round, and PPU Match at $0.75 per round:

At 200 yds the German surplus had the 2nd highest score and the smallest group extent box (GEB):
![]()
The Federal Match had the highest score and the 2nd smallest GEB:
![]()
The PPU Match had the lowest score and the 3rd biggest GEB (unless you want to throw out the one low shot as a flyer):

And the Malaysian surplus had the 3rd lowest score and the biggest GEB:

At 300 yds the PPU Match had the 3rd lowest score but the smallest GEB:

The Malaysian surplus had the 2nd highest score and the 2nd smallest GEB:
![]()
The German surplus had the lowest score and the 3rd biggest GEB:
![]()
And even though the Federal Match had the highest score at 300 yds, it also had the biggest GEB:

I shot two different strings at 600 yds. One the first string, the PPU Match has the highest score and the smallest GEB:
![]()
The Malaysian surplus technically had the 3rd lowest score and the 3rd biggest GEB:
![]()
However, one shot of the German surplus was so far off that it didnt even register on the target program. And, two shots of the Federal Match registered as 0.0 scores. Since neither of those groups contained 10 shots, Im not including them.
On the second string the PPU Match had the 2nd highest score and the smallest GEB again at 600 yds:
![]()
This time I got all 10 shots of Federal Match inside the scoring area and it produced the 3rd lowest score and the 2nd smallest GEB:
![]()
I also got all 10 of the second group of German surplus rounds on target this time. It got the highest score and the third biggest GEB:
![]()
And, the Malaysian surplus came in last in score and GEB on the second round:
![]()
Conclusions: Until this past range trip, I was a big fan of the price/performance of the German surplus. However, at $0.37 a round, the Malaysian surplus has become a contender, maybe even out to 300 yds. And, I think Im definitely going to buy some more PPU Match and work on moving its groups onto the X-Ring.
