SP5K, P30SK and HK3

As we now know HK are working on civilian G36 models but there have also been some pistols in the R&D pipeline. One is the SP5K successor to the SP89 pistol that will bring back the MP5K platform and will be a great starting place for an SBR conversion. If we are lucky, it will make it to market before the Sig MPX as its not a brand new platform requiring a new production line like the Sig. This year marking the 50th anniversary of the MP5 and HKs refocusing on this platform is a welcome sight for many HK fans in USA that often think of the MP5 as the quintessential HK.

For the last few years there has been talk of the striker P30x to complete for contracts that favor that design and to go head to head with Glock in the USA police pistol market. HK has had good penetration in the European and German police markets with the P7, P10, P2000 and P30 pistols but has never seen the same success in USA where cheap Glocks have the lions share of the market. I am looking forward to a striker fired HK that will go back to the VP70 and P7 striker fired lineage of pistols that will have a lower bore axis and slimmer grips due to lack of hammer assembly and hopefully also have a trigger with shorter reset then whats usually found on HK pistols of today.

HK also has had some other items in development. The P30SK (subcompact) is a pistol HK has been working on and it has received the "214-" serial number prefix. If introduced it would complete the P2000 to P30 line upgrade.

Another pistol HK was working on a while back but was put on hold is the HK3 .380 pistol. It would be the second 380 pistols ever designed by HK to follow the first HK pistol ever made the HK4, and its name would be a reference to that lineage. It would be very different from all other pistols in HKs lineup in 9mm/40/45 that focus on the MIL/LEO markets. The target market for this pistol would be the American civilian carry market and markets where civilian ownership of military calibers is restricted such as Mexico and Italy . Now that Glock plans to introduce the G42 subcompact model perhaps HK will also decide to build the HK3 380 pistol and market it in USA. If it was to be be made it would carry the "112-" serial number prefix.
