P30L/USP 9; First Trip Out

Had some off hours access to our local range this morning, so I decided to try out my (yet unfired) P30L (V1) and USP 9 (V1).

Having read the threads and reviews here, I anticipated that I may have some growing pains with the LEM trigger on the P30L. I was pleasantly suprised.

The first 10 rds (off hand at 10 yds) yielded a 1" grouping.

I was able to consistently hit accurately with this pistol for the duration of the range trip. Per the information provided by the board, I planned on having some light ejection with 115 gr ammunition. The lighter stuff did 'dribble' out of the port, with one casing kicking back into my forehead. I ran primarily 124 gr and 147 gr, and experienced good ejection patterns. No malfunctions were experienced.

I transitioned back and forth between the P30L and the USP. The USP trigger felt like it broke cleaner, and the sights were easier for me to adjust to; however, the first 10 rds out of the USP provided a much larger grouping.

As I experimented with grip adjustments, I found that if I used the joint of my trigger finger instead of the pad (like I did with the P30L), I could dial the groupings down.

The USP did not appear to be as forgiving as the P30L (perhaps due to the larger grip and having small hands). Again, no malfunctions of any kind were experienced. The USP seemed to eject the 115 gr a bit better than the P30L, but liked the heavier rounds better. One hundred rounds were fired out of each pistol.

I'm very pleased with both of these pistols. I look forward to getting back out and running more rounds through them both.
