After searching, I indeed found a thread on the subject (PTR 91 Loose Hand Guard) but the OP appears to be dealing with a gun of questionable origin and condition.
The play is at the rear of the handguard, where the handguard sits inside of the trunion. It's not a ton of play but certainly enough to notice. I can't really imagine this affecting shooting but, nevertheless, I'm wondering if it's a sign of some larger issue. This happens with any slim handguard I affix onto the rifle.
Like the OP in the aforementioned thread, an easy fix seems to simply involve adding some material in the lip that fits inside the trunion. I know that area gets hot so I'd likely need to be mindful of the sort of material I'd use (if at all).
The gun is a GI prefix and after inspecting the trunion, I don't see any cracking or failures of any sort...
Thanks a ton.
