Ok, I lied. I got a new PTR91, but for all intents and purposes, 91 patterned rifle. I got this rifle to turn into a dedicated designated marksman rifle. It has the 18 inch, match grade bull barrel. I haven't shot it yet, but I've punched the bore with a brass brush with Rem Oil followed up by a dry patch from the chamber end, doing my best not to scratch the barrel or the crown. There's no doubt I touched one or two times. I also used a normal .308 GI chamber brass brush with Rem Oil followed up by a dry chamber mop.
My question is, what is the best way of cleaning the barrel ensuring consistent accuracy and if necessary, being able to do it in the field with a light kit, like how the German army marksmen with G3s did it in Iraq and Afghanistan? Do I need to worry about a bore guide? Do I need to worry about screw together cleaning rods, like the M14 rods, bending and scratching the barrel?
Thanks guys. I really appreciate any input.
