I recently purchased a P2000SK with LEM for concealed carry. My choice was driven by my aversion to carrying a handgun with a cocked hammer, which I consider to be potentially dangerous if the firing mechanism is faulty. For this reason I have previously only carried a revolver, but was convinced by HK marketing that the LEM prevents unintended firing. However, after reading my P Series manual, I learned that with LEM the hammer spring is fully compressed when the gun is used in carry mode.
My question: Is there any way that a malfunction of the LEM hammer system could cause the firing pin to accidentally fire a chambered round? Or will the gun fire only when the trigger is pulled?
