I'm a new member and just wanted to say hello. I live in the Pacific Northwest south of Seattle (Go Seahawks!! Woo Hoo!!!). A while back my son and I were each able to pick up HK USP 40's when the Washington State Patrol decided that they wanted to switch to the S&W M&P 40. The troopers were given the option of buying their old duty gun if they wanted, and my son's friend, who is a trooper, found two coworkers that didn't want theirs. I think we got a great deal on them (about $400 each including three 13 round mags and Tru Glo tritium sites). Mine has an '02 date code and has a little holster rash, so it obviously saw some action in the field. My son's is in a little better condition. Both are the variant 3. I'm a lefty so I'm looking at installing the ambi control lever if I can find one for a reasonable price.
I own three Glocks, and I've got to say that the HK feels a whole lot better in my hand and seems like a much more refined pistol design.
Happy to be here,
